Figula Winery is located in Balatonfüred, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. The winery was founded by Mihály Figula, a key figure in the region’s modern winemaking revival which began following Hungary’s transition to democracy in 1989. Following his premature death in the early 2000s, his son Mihály Jr (‘Misi’) gradually took over the estate and has since further elevated the quality of the wines.
Today, Figula farms around 30 hectares across Balatonfüred, Balatonszőlős and Pécsely, focusing strongly on Olaszrizling (Welshriesling), a grape that has long been underappreciated, but which is treated here with care and ambition. Misi builds on his father’s legacy, showing deep respect for the region’s nature and soils while taking a precise and thoughtful approach in the vineyard and cellar.
The estate’s range demonstrates genuine clarity and character, from easy-drinking options to single-vineyard selections. Grown in a region with diverse soils ranging from limestone to tuff and sandstone, these wines have helped redefine the potential of Balaton. Clean, focused and rooted in place, these are wines that impress without fanfare.
