Gyula Szabó of Káli Kövek has an intimate knowledge of the area around his winery. He makes many of his wines by scouring the region for grapes of exceptional quality, harvesting the grapes and fermenting the wine in his winery. He works with the small growers throughout the year to get the best quality possible.
This particular wine is made from Furmint grapes acquired from the volcanic soils of Dörgicse, a small village to the east of the Káli Basin above the Lake Balaton. The winemaking process involves gently pressing the grapes in whole bunches, a slow fermentation with wild yeasts, and aging in large oak barrels. The result is a rich, round, and juicy wine, brimming with the flavors of ripe apples and pears, with a subtle touch of minerality.
