Orange wine from Tokaj? Yes, really! One of Tokaj’s most historic estates has produced something refreshingly modern: an orange wine made from 100% Hárslevelű grapes, which are grown organically in the mineral-rich Terézia vineyard. Unlike regular white wines, and in a similar way to red wines, the Hárslevelű grapes are fermented on the skins, giving the wine its bright orange colour. It is a bold, textured wine that defies regional expectations.
It is golden-hued with aromas of apple, vanilla, and subtle mineral notes. The finish is dry, rounded and distinctly Tokaj. This is a new direction for Count Degenfeld — and a welcome one. Serve lightly chilled.
