Merengő (“musing, pondering”) is St. Andrea’s top Bull’s Blood, made only in select years. Each grape variety in this blend is harvested from the winery’s best vineyards separately. Kékfrankos, cabernet franc, merlot and syrah from the Ferenchegy, Hangács and Paptag vineyards are harvested and fermented separately before blending and aging in 500-liter oak barrels for 16 months. The result is a truly elegant and sophisticated wine that is complex yet drinkable, full-bodied but refined, and can both be enjoyed now or aged for many years to come.
Bull’s Blood (bikavér) is a classic red blend usually based on the kékfrankos grape variety. Done well, it is fruity, elegant and refined. While its past quality has earned it a mixed reputation, it is on the comeback as an increasing number of winemakers are now making bikavér to showcase the Eger region’s fruity, elegant and smooth style.
