Degenfeld Sweet Szamorodni 2022 (Bio)

Degenfeld Szamorodni is a great introduction into the world of Hungarian dessert wines. The Tokaj region is located on the site of hundreds of extinct volcanoes, and it produces some of the best dessert wines in the world, of which Tokaji Aszú is the most well-known.

Szamorodni is a more easy-going, lighter dessert wine, made from late-harvest grapes that have been affected by botrytis, a noble rot that gives many of the world’s best dessert wines their distinctive flavor. However, unlike Aszú, grape bunches are harvested whole for Szamorodni and aged less in the barrel producing a fresher style of wine. Full of rich tropical fruit favors, dried apricots, honey, mango and much more, packing 98g/l of sugar, yet still wonderfully balanced so it doesn’t feel sticky or too sweet. Count Degenfeld Szamorodni is a great way to try a truly special type of wine.

About the Count Degenfeld Winery

The Count Degenfeld family has been making wine in Tokaj for centuries. Since reestablishing the winery in 1994, the winery has been making crisp, clean and modern wines using traditional grape varieties and traditional styles. The winery grows grapes organically and even makes their own compost for their vines. The wines are made with minimal human intervention, yet have a strikingly sophisticated and clean-cut style.
