Szamorodni is a traditional Tokaj wine, pressed from whole bunches that include both botrytised and healthy grapes. In the sweet style, the botrytis-driven fruit leads. The tiny one-man Vayi winery, run by historian and winemaker Krisztián Ungváry, makes only small quantities.
What sets this wine apart is its fine acidity: it holds the residual sugar (149 g/l) in perfect balance, so it shows all the complexity of a sweet Szamorodni without ever seeming really sweet. Honey, candied apricot, orange zest and nuts, carried by freshness and tension. A wine for slow enjoyment.
