Wine & Culture at Home #11: Kurtág Opera & Balassa Nyulászó Furmint 2010

Two contemporary masterpieces paired.

György Kurtág is the most well-known living Hungarian classical composer. His opera, based on Samuel Beckett’s Endgame, which he completed at the age of 92, was premiered at the Milano Scala in 2018 and you can now see it online.

The wine to match? Another contemporary classic: we have a few last bottles of the beautifully aged Balassa Nyulászó 2010. It’s liveliness and acidity make it seem young for its age, and just like Kurtág’s music, it’s an intense and unqiue experience that isn’t for the faint-hearted.
