Decanter World Wine Awards 2026: Hungary’s award-winning wines in our selection

The Decanter World Wine Awards are the biggest wine competition in the world, and 2026 was Hungary’s best year there yet: one Best in Show, eight Platinum and fifteen Gold medals, with 144 wines awarded in all.

We’re happy to have several of the winners in our selection. Here are the award-winning wines you can try with us.

Platinum

Kreinbacher Brut Classic, a sparkling wine made by the méthode traditionnelle (the same method as Champagne), is one of the world’s 198 Platinum wines, and one of the most affordable of them by a distance. Kreinbacher had a clean sweep this year, winning one Platinum, one Gold and two Silvers.

From Tokaj comes a double from István Balassa. His Villő 6 puttonyos Tokaji Aszú and his sweet Szamorodni 2022 both took Platinum. Two luscious, opulent sweet wines showing the complexity of the region.

Gold

The Kreinbacher Prestige Brut 2019 in magnum (1.5 L) took Gold, big in format and in presence. Two Tokaj classics join it. The dry Sauska Furmint 2025 won Gold with 95 points, a Decanter Gold for €10.90. And the Grand Tokaj 5 puttonyos Tokaji Aszú 2019, the region’s sweet classic, took Gold as well.

Silver

Kreinbacher Prestige Brut, the estate’s classic vintage sparkling, and the Royal Tokaji 5 puttonyos Tokaji Aszú, a sweet Tokaji from one of the wineries that helped rebuild the modern region, both took Silver.

Bronze

Bronze winners include the Royal Tokaji Late Harvest Cuvée 2023, an approachable, sweet way into Tokaj, and three wines from St. Andrea in Eger: their Áldás and Merengő Egri Bikavér and their Boldogságos white blend. From Tokaj, the Gizella Tokaji Cuvée took Bronze too. Egri Bikavér, once dismissed as a cheap blend, is firmly back on track as the region’s flagship red.
